• Ethnic double-standard painfully obvious to all but most devout supporters of political correctness
By Jenifer Dixon
A black actor can joke about killing white people on national television with no backlash, but when a popular white female chef concedes she said a racial epithet privately to her husband, her once-good name is dragged through the mud, and 12 major companies she has done business with for years drop her like a hot potato. Blame the political-correctness police for this ridiculous spectacle.
During a December 2012 airing of the comedy show “Saturday Night Live,” black actor Jamie Foxx quipped:
“In Django Unchained, I play a slave. . . .But don’t worry about that. Because I get outta the chains. I get free. I free my wife, and I kill all the white people in the movie. How great is that?”
This remark was made to the hooting, hollering and all-out approval of a largely white audience. But that was the end of it. He was not censored or even questioned for making that remark.
And this was the exchange when one briefly-brave interviewer had the nerve to question his remarks:
SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: I gotta ask you, you hosted Saturday Night Live over the weekend.
JAMIE FOXX: Yeah.
GUTHRIE: Some people raised some eyebrows at part of what you said. It was part of your monologue, a joke. You said your character gets to, quote, “kill all the white people,” adding, “how great is that?” I know you know about the criticism; do you think it was fair? I mean, how do you look back on it now?
FOXX: I mean, I – I’m a comedian. So, I mean, I’m not a – I don’t even know what to say.
GUTHRIE: Back to the movie…
The interviewer demurred and dropped the subject like the hot potato that she knows it is. Jamie Foxx’s remarks were made seven months ago. And that was the end of it. He was not censored, or fired or even questioned for making that remark.
Now let’s fast-forward to the Paula Deen soap opera that started in mid-June.
It all started when it was announced that Mrs. Deen’s company is being sued for $1.2M. She herself is not being sued individually, but as the head of a company she has been named and was deposed. The suit is actually being brought by a Caucasian female, who alleges that she was sexually harassed and worked in a hostile environment.
In her deposition, Mrs. Deen was asked if she had ever used a racial epithet to describe a black person. Being the apologetic white person that she is, Mrs. Deen chose to indict herself by admitting to the use of the word in a private conversation 27 years ago. She said she used the “N” word in a conversation with her husband after she had been held up by a black man in her job as a teller.
Later, Mrs. Deen tried to apologize profusely in a short video, but to no avail.
“I want to apologize to everybody for the wrong I have done,” said Mrs. Deen in the 45-second video posted on “YouTube,” the popular video hosting website. “I want to learn and grow from this. Inappropriate, hurtful language is totally, totally unacceptable.”
Groveling will do no good, Mrs. Deen. The Food Channel, the network that sponsors her cooking show, abruptly canceled her contract.
“Stick a fork in this butterball—she’s been deep fried and deep-sixed by the Food Network,” gloated New York’s Daily News. The newspaper also called her apology “ham-handed.”
The tarring didn’t stop there, though. Mrs. Deen is also being brought to task for a suggestion she made to the same Caucasian female who is suing her that they planned a real old-fashioned Southern wedding with all black waiters in white coats, reminiscent of the Old South.
Meanwhile popular black “rap” artists sing about murdering and raping white women, and there is no censorship. Instead, it’s an accepted part of the “diverse” music industry.
Besides being dumped by the Food Network, Smithfield Foods, Walmart and Home Depot also canned her, and it looks like Target will no longer carry her products. Ballantine Books has bailed out, too. So far 12 companies have dumped her.
CNN or CBS, liberal or conservative, makes no difference. They’re falling over each other to ridicule, insult and degrade Mrs. Deen.
The icing on the cake came when her spokeswoman, Elana Weiss, announced that there would be a parting of the ways with her New York agent, Barry Weiner. Perhaps Mrs. Deen thought her Jewish agent and spokesperson would save her, but no—she’s toast.
