On February 19, 1945, two United States Marines, Howard McLaughlin and Ray Miller, landed on Iwo Jima and spent over a month there attempting to dislodge the Japanese from this strategically important island.
Unbeknownst to each other, decades later they recounted their memories and had their works published. AFP PODCAST caught up with the authors to discuss their book, From the Volcano to the Gorge: Getting the Job Done on Iwo Jima, in Part 4 of this 5-part interview (23:40).
