ABOLISH IRS, REPEAL 16TH AMENDMENT

  rss202

By Jim Traficant

You may have noticed some of the opposition being printed and discussed on the national scene to my proposal of abolishing the IRS, repealing the “suspect” 16th Amendment and installing the national retail sales tax—with absolutely no exemptions.

Opponents claim prices will go through the roof, businesses will fail, the poor will be devastated and on and on. I actually believe that I hear violins in the background.

Well, those opponents have some opposition themselves. Namely, John W. Osier of Waldoboro, Maine and Ed Waggoner Sr. of Veneta, Ore. It’s a known fact that many of the “so-called experts” do not have the reason and logic of Americans whose names are never known.

Thus, in this column, I will publish the logic and wisdom of two bright Americans, both patriots, who have witnessed the debacle that has infected our great republic, a continuing demise of our capitalistic system of participatory, democratic government.

Mr. and Mrs. John W. Osier subsist on Social Security. They receive $921 per month. John writes that he “doesn’t want anyone to think” that he’s “crying on someone’s shoulder.”

John’s recommendations:

• Stop meddling in foreign affairs. We have caused most of our terrorist problems and are losing respect around the world.

• Stop waging needless wars. We only fatten the pockets of some and kill our young men and women. John’s words: “If we can work together and solve problems, such as putting a man on the Moon, we can do it in any situation.”

• Bring our troops home and station them on our borders to keep out illegal immigrants and narcotics, and to ensure our national security.

• Get out of the United Nations. • Stop the free trade/NAFTA madness and place tariffs on imports.

• Quit all this foreign aid stupidity. We are bankrupt. Use our money in America, not Israel or other countries.

• Abolish the Federal Reserve System.

• Abolish the IRS.

• Replace income taxes with a flat, simple retail sales tax, with no exemptions.

• Negotiate with unions and management to lower prices.

• Start operating America like you would run your own business, to make a profit and avoid debt.

I agree with Mr. Osier on nearly all issues. I support remaining a member of the United Nations, but not as Uncle Sucker that carries the burden of the free world.

All in all, America would be wise to accept the advice and counsel of Mr. John W. Osier.

Now comes Ed Waggoner Sr. of Veneta, Ore. Ed states that America faces a dangerous future where “the light is growing dim, but there is still some light.”

I list here Mr. Waggoner’s straightforward views and recommendations:

• Abolish the IRS.

• Replace the income tax with a national sales tax. He states, “I can’t believe that the national sales tax has made no progress despite the efficacy of its potential and applicability.”

It is simple. Everyone understands it, and the amount. No audits. No “experts.” No paperwork. No “oaths” to sign or violate. No scary letters. No IRS. No tax courts. No penalties. No investigations. No more withholding of our paychecks.

• It’s easy to collect. Most of our states already collect sales taxes. Most of our citizen-taxpayers are accustomed to paying sales taxes.

• The collection system is already in place, from the municipalities to county, state and federal levels.

• There are no hidden business-type taxes.

• It’s economically neutral: All pay the same tax.

• It eliminates the expensive burden of compliance and the crippling expense of income tax focused bookkeeping.

• It’s progressive: Those who “enjoy the greater benefit from the blessings of nationhood should pay more in support of our nation.” They will do so by being, naturally, a bigger consumer.

• It’s legally avoidable. “Nobody can avoid the tax of inflation.” However, the consumer can decide to limit or structure consumption, without penalty.

• It’s simple to enforce. The IRS maintains that 30 percent of all taxpayers fail to pay and file income taxes. The retailers collect the tax and they are few to oversee compared to the millions of taxpayers now avoiding their tax responsibilities.

• It’s uniform. The national retail sales tax is the same in all 50 states.

• It’s visible; there are no hidden taxes. That makes a 25 percent sales tax actually less costly than the current tax system hat simply passes “hidden” taxes to you, the consumer.

Other benefits: when personal and corporate income taxes are removed, “no country in the world will be able to compete with America.” Savings will increase and interest rates will fall.

In capitalism, productivity is only possible when investments are made. Productivity should not be taxed. Consumption should. Savings will produce capital that will produce jobs and individual security.

As for labor, the capitalist and the laborer are partners, not adversaries. Neither is taxed, nor should be. “The income tax system that places capitalists against labor is pure Marxism.”

THE RULE OF ‘SEVENTY-TWO’

I will save this brilliant mathematical analysis for my next week’s column. Mr. Waggoner’s “Rule of Seventy-Two” deserves full national exposure, and Mr. Waggoner will get that national exposure right here in the Jim Traficant column.

Mr. Osier deserved that opportunity as well. You see, I believe in listening to and taking the advice of the American people. Truth is, if more politicians would just follow the Constitution and listen to the American people, we wouldn’t be in this mess.

Get back at me.
